An incubation experiment was carried out to investigate whether salinity at high pH has negative effects on microbial substrate use, i.e. the mineralization of the amendment to CO2 and inorganic N and the incorporation of amendment C into microbial biomass C. In order to exploit natural differences in the 13C/12C ratio, substrate from two C4 plants, i.e. highly decomposed and N-rich sugarcane filter cake and less decomposed N-poor maize leaf straw, were added to two alkaline Pakistani soils differing in salinity, which had previously been cultivated with C3 plants. In soil 1, the additional CO2 evolution was equivalent to 65% of the added amount in the maize straw treatment and to 35% in the filter cake treatment. In the more saline soil 2, the respective figures were 56% and 32%. The maize straw amendment led to an identical immobilization of approximately 48 μg N g−1 soil over the 56-day incubation in both soils compared with the control soils. In the filter cake treatment, the amount of inorganic N immobilized was 8.5 μg N g−1 higher in soil 1 than in soil 2 compared with the control soils. In the control treatment, the content of microbial biomass C3-C in soil 1 was twice that in soil 2 throughout the incubation. This fraction declined by about 30% during the incubation in both soils. The two amendments replaced initially similar absolute amounts of the autochthonous microbial biomass C, i.e. 50% of the original microbial biomass C in soil 1 and almost 90% in soil 2. The highest contents of microbial biomass C4-C were equivalent to 7% (filter cake) and 11% (maize straw) of the added C. In soil 2, the corresponding values were 14% lower. Increasing salinity had no direct negative effects on microbial substrate use in the present two soils. Consequently, the differences in soil microbial biomass contents are most likely caused indirectly by salinity-induced reduction in plant growth rather than directly by negative effects of salinity on soil microorganisms.  相似文献

A 67-day incubation experiment was carried out with a soil initially devoid of any organic matter due to heating, which was amended with sugarcane sucrose (C4-sucrose with a δ13C value of ?10.5‰), inorganic N and an inoculum for recolonisation and subsequently at day 33 with C3-cellulose (δ13C value of ?23.4‰). In this soil, all organic matter is in the microbial biomass or in freshly formed residues, which makes it possible to analyse more clearly the role of microbial residues for decomposition of N-poor substrates. The average δ13C value over the whole incubation period was ?10.7‰ in soil total C in the treatments without C3-cellulose addition. In the CO2 evolved, the δ13C values decreased from ?13.4‰ to ?15.4‰ during incubation. In the microbial biomass, the δ13C values increased from ?11.5‰ to ?10.1‰ at days 33 and 38. At day 67, 36% of the C4-sucrose was left in the treatment without a second amendment. The addition of C3-cellulose resulted in a further 7% decrease, but 4% of the C3-cellulose was lost during the second incubation period. Total microbial biomass C declined from 200 μg g?1 soil at day 5 to 70 μg g?1 soil at day 67. Fungal ergosterol increased to 1.5 μg g?1 soil at day 12 and declined more or less linearly to 0.4 μg g?1 soil at day 67. Bacterial muramic acid declined from a maximum of 35 μg g?1 soil at day 5 to a constant level of around 16 μg g?1 soil. Glucosamine showed a peak value at day 12. Galactosamine remained constant throughout the incubation. The fungal C/bacterial C ratio increased more or less linearly from 0.38 at day 5 to 1.1 at day 67 indicating a shift in the microbial community from bacteria to fungi during the incubation. The addition of C3-cellulose led to a small increase in C3-derived microbial biomass C, but to a strong increase in C4-derived microbial biomass C. At days 45 and 67, the addition of N-free C3-cellulose significantly decreased the C/N ratio of the microbial residues, suggesting that this fraction did not serve as an N-source, but as an energy source.  相似文献

The objective of the present review was to present the current knowledge on nitrogen (N) rhizodeposition, including techniques for 15N labelling of agricultural plants, amounts of N rhizodeposition and its fate in soil. Rhizodeposition is the process of release of organic and inorganic compounds from living plant roots. It is often quantified in terms of carbon (C) and less often as N derived from rhizodeposition (NdfR). Rhizodeposition of N can be estimated by labelling plants with 15N and following its fate in soil. Most methods used for labelling plants with 15N can only be applied after appearance of the first leaf and only allow pulse or multiple pulse labelling. Only the split-root technique and the application of gaseous 15N allow continuous labelling. All methods available at present have their flaccidities mostly due to the fact that the application of N is not following its physiological pathway of assimilation or by using artificial conditions. In the studies reviewed, amounts of N rhizodeposits ranged from 4% to 71% of total assimilated plant N. In legumes the median was 16% and in cereals it was 14%. Rhizodeposits were 15–96% of the below-ground plant biomass (BGP). In legumes the median was 73% and in cereal it was 57%. The high variability of these results shows the need for more investigations on N rhizodeposition looking especially on the factors influencing the amounts released in different plant species under field conditions.  相似文献

Knowledge about spatial soil variation in terms of measured pedodiversity, as well as the spatial distribution of soils in terms of spatial subset representativity, offers the possibility to estimate the quality and variance within a soil map. Additionally, it can help to identify representative sample locations. Demonstrated at the German soil map at a scale of 1:1,000,000, this study describes a methodology to analyze the distribution of taxonomical pedodiversity using the Simpson index and a new approach to derive representative spatial subsets based on a modified χ2‐test (χm2), which can be used as monitoring areas. To analyze the spatial composition of the soil map and to detect differences in the underlying mapping schemes of the German soil map 1:1,000,000, three different spatial data structures were studied: (1) the entire soil map, (2) the soil map segmented into geomorphological regions, and (3) the soil map segmented into the Federal States of Germany. Representative patches of varying sizes were statistically derived for all spatial subsets as well as the entire soil map ranging from 20 km × 20 km up to 70 km × 70 km. The results show that the measured pedodiversity is linked to both the geomorphology as well as the political borders of the Federal States. On the one hand, this reveals the uncertainty of measuring pedodiversity on the basis of soil‐class maps as the spatial representation of pedodiversity is influenced by the different mapping traditions and methods applied in the 16 Federal States of Germany. On the other hand, it allows the analysis of the aggregation schemes of different landscapes. The presented approach helps to understand large soilscapes and to compare different soil maps of different states and countries as well as to enhance the soil map with additional information. Furthermore, the representative patches can be used to select soil‐monitoring areas.  相似文献

During the past two decades anthelmintic resistance in equine parasites has been found in the group of small strongyle species (cyathostomins) and in the ascarid species Parascaris equorum. The ubiquitous nature and possible severe consequences of disease with these nematodes make them the prime targets of current worm control programmes. Traditional control strategies mainly rely on the strategic application of anthelmintics, currently represented by three major drug classes: benzimidazoles (BZ), the tetrahydropyrimidine pyrantel (PYR) and macrocyclic lactones (ML). Following decades of routine and frequent anthelmintic applications, many cyathostomin populations on horse farms in industrialised countries must be considered as resistant to BZ anthelmintics. However, to date no published cases of cyathostomin disease specifically associated with anthelmintic resistance were reported. Possibly this is due to the generally subclinical and unspecific symptoms associated with cyathostomin infections. Nevertheless, exclusive reliance on the ML drug class may increase the threat of clinical disease due to drug-resistant cyathostomins. More recently, P. equorum has been reported as having developed resistance against ivermectin and moxidectin, two representatives of the ML-class. These anthelmintics are currently the most frequently used drug class in horses. This nematode species is mainly found in foals and in younger horses due to the development of immunity following exposure to infection. Infection with P. equorum can result in clinically drastic consequences such as obstruction and/or penetration of the small intestine, the latter usually leading to death. In conclusion, on horse farms the efficacy of anthelmintic treatments should be examined routinely for each drug class. Several factors can influence the rate at which anthelmintic resistance develops; high frequency of treatment being one of the most important. Modern control strategies should therefore attempt to significantly reduce anthelmintic treatments. Several pasture and farm management practices found to be negatively associated with nematode and anthelmintic resistance prevalence will be discussed in the review presented here.  相似文献

This paper reports a survey conducted in France during 2011 to evaluate the efficacy of commonly used anthelmintics against horse cyathostomins. A total of 40 farms and 1089 horses were screened for the presence of cyathostomins. All farms but one were positive, with an overall animal infection rate of 53.7%, ranging from 9% to 83% on individual farms. On 445 horses from 30 of these farms, a faecal egg count reduction test (FECRT) was performed to evaluate the efficacy of oral formulations of fenbendazole (FBZ), pyrantel embonate (PYR), ivermectin (IVM) and moxidectin (MOX). Calculation of the mean FECR and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) around the mean was performed using bootstrap analysis. Resistance to FBZ was found on 17 of 18 farms investigated, with a mean reduction of 57% (95% CI: 38.5-71.2%). Suspected resistance for PYR was found on 6 of 30 farms, and confirmed on another 3 of 30 farms, with a mean reduction for PYR of 94.7% (95% CI: 88.9-98.5%). Reduced efficacy simultaneously of FBZ and PYR was found in 7 farms. Reduced efficacy of IVM was found in one animal on one farm and of MOX in one animal on another farm, and was combined with resistance against FBZ and/or PYR. These results indicate that single and multiple drug resistance and reduced efficacy in equine cyathostomins is present in France. Macrocylic lactones proved to be highly effective compounds against cyathostomins, with reduced efficacy for IVM and MOX in two farms only. These results extend present knowledge on the occurrence of drug resistant cyathostomins in Europe, and illustrate the necessity to use anthelmintics in appropriate worm control programmes.  相似文献

The frequencies of milk protein variants alphas1-casein, alphas2-casein, beta-casein and beta-lactoglobulin were determined in 182 milk sheep from 7 flocks in Lower Saxony and Saxony. The genotype effects of these polymorphic milk protein variants on milk performance traits were estimated for 173 ewes using a test day model with fixed regression.The model included the fixed effects of colour variant of the breed, region, lambing season, lambing year, lactation number and number of lambs born. The herd and animal effect were treated as random and the days in milk as linear and non-linear covariates. The milk protein variants of alphas1-casein and beta-casein showed a significant relationship to protein content and the variants of beta-casein to milk fat content. Milk fat yield was significantly associated with the milk protein variants of alphas2-casein, whereas the other milk performance traits were not significantly correlated.  相似文献
